5 Tips For Scoring High In Your Engineering Exams

1. Read textbooks and then read your guide/notes.
    Many students try to read directly from the guide/notes which makes it hard to understand the material and the concepts. Reading from the textbook first makes it easy to understand the concepts and facts. It also provides us with more information about the material. Try reading from the textbook and then try to recollect as much as you can remember. After reading the textbook, try reading the guide/notes. You will easily find the difference and will be able to remember more.

2. Pomodoro technique.
    As study suggests that it is necessary to have little breaks in between your work to improve memory. In this technique, study is broke down in parts with having 5 minutes break in between them by using a timer. The interval to study should be of 25 minutes to retain maximum memory of the study. This also helps in time management.

3. Time management.
     During exams, lot of students feel exam anxiety which is nothing but fear of failure. This can be overcome by making a study time table. In study time table, write down the subjects you are falling behind on and then assign them enough time for preparation. For e.g. If you are not prepared for your maths exam then assign it 3-4 hours daily in your time table. This will help you to catch up with the current chapter being taught in your college/classes.

4. Sleep.
    "Early bird wins the world". Try to remember this quote because it will help you greatly if you are an engineering student. As per the study, it is found that if a person wakes up early in the morning and reads or learns anything then it will stay in his mind for longer duration. Also try to get enough sleep before studying. Try sleeping early during your exam month because the students who are well rested are able to recollect more information during exams. It is advisable to sleep for 8 hours to feel well rested. So, it is actually fine to sleep early at night and wake up early in the morning.

5. Weak Points.
    Lot of us have weak points in certain subject of engineering. It is not something to be feel ashamed. If you are having weak points in technical subject then write them down on a paper and try to plan out a way to overcome them. Ask your friends or teachers to help you with the topics which you are not able to understand. After learning, try to solve them on your own. If your friend or colleague is having a hard time to understand something, try teaching them. This will help you to understand the material even better.

5 Things Civil Engineers Should Carry

Here is a list of 5 things a civil engineer should carry in his backpack.

1. Fineliner pens.

    Fineliner pens have a smooth tip and are widely used for graphical, and sketching purposes. Engineers are required to make constant modifications to their drawings. So, these are really useful to them.

2. Laser Distance Measurer-

    Laser Distance Measurers are better than the measuring tapes for horizontal and vertical measurements because the laser line is always straight and no bending takes place. Also, there is no chance of misreading and the unit of the distance can be chosen. Time required is also less. In India, there are two famous brands for LDM, one is Bosch and the other is Leica. You can buy them online at reasonable prices. Use of LDMs are limited because they cannot be used in outdoor conditions where light is too bright.

3. Spirit Level-

It is an instrument used for indicating the surface to be horizontally levelled. They are cheap and easily available. It is widely used in construction works.

4. Safety Goggles-

Eyes are the most important part of our body. So, it is necessary to protect them by using safety goggles. Construction sites have lots of dirt flying around which can get in your eyes and result in infection or during welding the melted pieces can fly into your eyes and result in blindness. Safety goggles are cheap and can be life saving if you are working on construction sites.

5. Safety Gloves-
Civil engineers who work in quality management are supposed to carry out many tests on building materials. If they perform it with bare hands it can cut them or cause a serious injury. Safety gloves provide protection to the hands.

Atmospheric Pressure- When the atmospheric air exerts a normal pressure upon all the surfaces with which it comes in contact is called as atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure varies with altitude.

Gauge Pressure- It is the pressure which is measured above the atmospheric pressure.

Absolute Pressure- It is the pressure which is measured with reference to absolute vacuum pressure or zero pressure.

Vacuum Pressure- It is the pressure which is measured below the atmospheric pressure.

Total Pressure- It is a force exerted by static fluid on the surface in contact with the fluid. It is denoted by P.

Centre Of Pressure- It is the point at which the total pressure is suppose to act.

Centre Of Buoyancy- It is the point at which the force of buoyancy acts.

Metacentre Height- It is the distance between the meta-centre of floating body and the centre of gravity.
